Congratulations!

A group of Saint Roch's pupils represented the school at the City Chambers in the Great Expectations challenge.

The Business Management pupils had to participate in a Stock Market challenge and compare their stocks portfolio with other schools.

After a bad start, the pupils staged a dramatic comeback to clinch a respectable 4th place.

The pupils involved received certificates to recognise their achievement. Plus they had a great day ot team building, enterprise, learning and fun!

Clyde Golden Mic Competition

Saint Roch's pupils entered the Clyde Golden Mic Competition where they had to design their own radio show.

Some of the pupils' ideas were brilliant, but perhaps the best thing to emerge from the activity is the birth of ROCH FM and its catchy if tongue in cheek jingle, which we will post on here a little later.

Question Time Parental Survey

At the recent Question Time on Thursday November 9th, we conducted a survey on a few key issues:

What we found out that from our sample group 60% of Parental Households has access to the internet.

Those same Parents told us:
57% surf more than once a week.
7% surf once a week.
13% surf once a month.

We then asked about our school website

13% have visited the site.

Finally our last question asked about podcasting. How many people knew what is was?
20% of our sample group said they did know what podcasting was.

We aim to conduct another survey soon!

What is Podcasting anyway?

Podcasting is the creation of audio files (like a radio broadcast) that can be downloaded or listened to via the internet.

Hope that clears up any ambiguity!

Podcast Demo

Here is our first Saint Roch's Podcast.

It is just a demo and is voiced by a teacher. The pupils will do a far better job!

What will happen is there will be a title (in this case Podcast Demo) and all you have to do is to click on the link and follow the very simple instructions to download or play it from there.

We are also aiming at having streaming podcasts so you can listen while you go about your business!

We hope it will be of value to you.

Welcome to the Big Roch Digital Project

Welcome to Saint Roch's Secondary School's Digital Project!

By giving our students ownership of this project we intend to give them confidence in ICT, working with each other, and give them a valuable learning resource available at home.

Our key areas are:

Podcasting
Blogging
Video/Animation

PODCASTING
Our aim is to give our young people the chance to write, produce and record podcasts available for download at home or in school.

The podcasts will be on a myriad of topics:

  • audio revision notes
  • user guides (called podguides)
  • language tracks
  • poems
  • short stories
  • glossaries
  • school news items
  • special news features

BLOGGING
We aim to give our pupils the chance to air their views on different topics, as well as create blogs that can be used by students all across Scotland for revision purposes.

VIDEO/ANIMATION
Our most ambitious area is to let pupils write, create and produce their own video film and animations. This will take place at a later date, as we are concentrating on Podcasting and Blogging for this session.

We think it will be a new way for our students to learn!
